NEW: Now you don’t have to setup the VPN manually, but just download the PandaPow VPN app for Android 4+ from Google Play:

PandaPow VPN for Android 4+ on Google Play

If that doesn’t work, then continue with the setup instructions below to use the Android native VPN.

Step 1: Select PandaPow Server

Click below link to view available servers. You may need to login to the site first. You may want to copy the server address, and make note of the server type.

Show servers

Step 2: Add a VPN connection

Beware: If this is the first time you use VPN on your device, you may be required to setup a screen lock to continue. You must choose to enter a pattern, pin or password for the screen lock. Please make sure you remember what you enter, as we have no way of helping you retrieve this!

Navigate to the Android VPN Settings, as follows:

Android Settings > Wireless & Networks > More … > VPN

For convenience, you might want to add a short cut to the VPN settings to your home screen. To do this, locate the Settings shortcut in the Widgets tab of your App drawer. Place the shortcut on your screen and select VPN as target.

Once you’re in the Android VPN Settings. Tap Add VPN network or the + to add a new configuration, then fill in the configuration as follows

Name: you can choose this freely, for instance PandaPow

Type: This should be PPTP or L2TP/IPSec PSK depending on what server you chose in step 1

Server Address: the address of the server chosen in step 1.

(L2TP/IPSec only) IPSec pre-shared key: HowEasy

(PPTP only) PPP Encryption: uncheck this if you’ve chosen a PPTP server with no MPPE.

After you’ve entered the correct information, tap Save.

Step 3: Connect the VPN

To connect, you will need your username and password. These can be retrieved from the client-area, or from the email sent to you upon signing up. It’s recommended that you copy the password and then paste it into the password field, to avoid typos.

To connect, tap the VPN you created in step 2. Fill in your username and password. Make sure to check Save account information.

Tap Connect.

Once connected you will see a key icon in the status bar. You can disconnect by tapping the PandaPow VPN connection in the notification area (pull down the status bar).

Common problems

If you are unable to connect, there are a number of possible reasons. The most common ones are:

  • The server address is incorrect. Make sure you enter the address exactly as seen in the list of servers. If you copy-pasted it, make sure it wasn’t copied as a link, starting with http.
  • The username or password is incorrect. Make sure you’ve entered the username and password correctly. If you’re unsure, you can fund the username and password in the client area.
  • (L2TP/IPSec only) The wrong pre shared key is used. The pre-shared key is case sensitive: HowEasy
  • PPP Encryption mismatch. The PPTP servers whose address starts with ‘pe.’ require encryption, the ones that start with ‘p.’ require no encryption.
  • PPTP unavailable. Some networks restrict, or completely block, the use of PPTP. Make sure you also try L2TP/IPSec
